Esther & Clair's Recipe for a Perfect Saturday

A couple weeks ago, Clair and I hung out on Saturday, just the two of us. Don't get me wrong, Mac is the coolest but he just needs a lot more supervision that can get in the way of fun-times. Here's our recipe for a perfect Saturday

1. Put together possibly the coolest outfit a 3 year old has picked out on her own.

2. Watch a quarter of Snow White so Esther can regroup and wake up.
3. Eat some breakfast and spend the morning hanging out with Mac.
4. Hang out at Esther's while she gets ready.
5. Humour Esther by posing for a million pictures. Maybe do the robot.

6. Take the bus down to Whyte ave to putz around.

7. Find a diner for lunch and order your faves (We even had Lemonade).
8. Plan to get dessert but end up way too full.

9. Act cool on whyte ave for a bit.

10. Go visit Clair's dad at the Market.
11. Visit with some friends.

12. Get your face painted with an awesome dolphin.

13. Take the train home. Make a lot of faces on the train.

14. Finish the day by painting your nails a million colours and watching Monsters Inc.

Kentucky is the new Alabama

I guess I made this post a couple months ago and forgot to post it!

I've been all about The South for like a year now. I wrote a little about it before. Lately, I've been getting more into Kentucky and the Appalachians and couldn't decide if that was a different region or not. I googled it but that didn't help much. Here are 11 reasons why I am still super into The South (including Appalachia):

1. Justified
2. the 4 part PBS documentary "Appalachia: A History of Mountains and People"
3. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blackfoot
4. Jim Beam (still), Wild Turkey and Makers Mark
5. The accents
6. Texas in general. Specifically Houston for its rappers and Austin for its hipster music
7. The concept album "White Mansions" about the civil war
8. Tammy Wynett, Loretta Lynne, and Waylon Jennings
9. Boots and denim. together. forever.
10. Yelawolf (still, even with Shady)
11. Gone with the Wind (The book not the movie)
12. The Hatfield-McCoy Feud

That's it guy.

Last Week my girl Sheila and I got some tattoos at showdown  in China Town. Then we got Bubble Tea and Pho so it was the best day.

Sheila Getting Tattooed by Heath who has the fastest, lightest hand ever.

Dusty (left) owns the shop and is also from Manitoba. I always wanted an outline of MB with a heart over Winnipeg like
Alysha drew, so he did one for me for fun!
Also, he's not a tattoo artist (or a cartographer).

So at first it was like yeeeeu:

But then it was pretty cute? We'll see how it heals:

Here are the other tattoos I got:
They are the closing lines of Dorothy Parker's poem Philosophy:

If I should labor through daylight and dark,
Consecrate, valorous, serious, true,
Then on the world I may blazon my mark;
And what if I don't, and what if I do?

My Neighbourhood.

My place in Edmonton is one block from china town, city hall, the roughest neighbourhood and the River Valley. Here's the view a block from my place, and some other things.

The pyramids in the background are the conservatory

People love to run these stairs. Sometimes I need to take a break halfway, yeesh.

This is the park by my place at the bottom of the stairs.

All of these views are directly across the street from the peep show above.
So my neighbourhood has a lot of wacky things going on.
