Some things Vizlumin Marie Cabrera is into right now

I probably met Viz at the Albert and we were probably both 15. There were probably hardcore bands playing and we were probably both trying not to get kicked out. We've hung out since then but have gotten especially close in the past year. Viz is an amazing hairstylist and you should probably make an appointment with her. She works at Vault Salon & Spa. She is also the rarest combination of adorable and glamorous. After a pretty long chat about Winnipeg gossip and bad shoes, Viz told me some things she’s been into lately.

1. Driving

I have a car right now and for the next month. I like being able to drive myself.

2. Going to the Movies

I’ve been going to more movies, I like movie theatres in general – especially the smell. The first movie I went to was Denis the Menace at the Globe, but before it was the Globe.

3. Shark Week

Although Viz had never heard Tracy Jordan’s life advice, she told me she DID wish she could live every week like it was shark week.

You should download anything they ever play during Shark Week. Did you know they have to keep moving in order to keep breathing? And some give birth to live calfs, like mammals. But they’re not. Because they breathe under water.

4. Office Supplies
This has to be 2 different ones pretty much. First highlighters. Not medium sized, you have to feel like your commiting. Fine or fat for sure, I don’t believe in the middle ones. Their stupid….pretty much the dumbest invention. Second, hanging files. Especially blue ones. I don’t have any of my own but I do dream of the day I have my own filing cabinet.

5. The Smell of Library Books

That smell takes me back so far, its pretty much like a time machine. When you open up a book and the spine’s crunchy and you smell that old glue. I used to read Bailey School Kids books, I guess - but here’s the thing, when I was finally allowed to take books out of the library, I always chose the ones about reproductive health and adolescence. But just one, and hide it with a bunch of regular ones…cause I didn’t want to seem like a perv. Also one time I got a scratch on my arm in my sleep and I guess my friends had been watching the craft or something and told me a ghost was attacking me. Then they made me go to the library and research supernatural stuff. That was the only time I didn’t like that library smell. I was kind of mad at the library for encouraging them.

6. Traveling and Eating - Together

When I travel I have to eat something from that place or I feel like I haven’t really been there. Like in Montreal, I didn’t have a bagel or smoked meat – not even poutine. So pretty much I’ve never been there. But in Brussels, I was only there for one day but I got to eat the French fries they have there, so I felt I was really there. Like I left a little piece of my soul there.

7. Hello Kitty
When Viz was thinking on some other things she’s into, I suggested Hello Kitty. She said that yes she was pretty into Hello Kitty but she didn’t think it belonged on the list because “people would expect it."

8. Bows or High Heels

I’m really into bows. Bows I like the shape of but high heels I have history with so they should make the list. 

I got my first pair when I was 9. We were driving from San Fransisco to LA and stopped at an outlet mall. I remember thinking “will my mom think I’m growing up too fast if I asked for them” but I did anyway. They were beyond cute, I can’t even deal with it. So cute. I am in love with everything about high heels, even the noise they make.
