Movie Night with New York City

Friday we went to Coney Island. Finally. It was run down and incredible. we met up with my friends from winnipeg Tyson and Mel and the friend they are staying with here, Kelly. We went to nathans AND on the wonder wheel (all i could think of was The Warriors in my head the whole time - it was exciting). We also saw a freak show - it was the most run down part but totally charming, they stole Tyson's lighter.
We took the F train there and back - the ride was one of the best parts of going to Coney.
Friday night Alysha, Mel and I met up with a friend of hers who too us to a garden party in Williamsburg. It was all patio lights and BYOB and charming. so lovely.
Then we met up with Tyson and Kelly and had a party on a rooftop.

Saturday was the Brooklyn Hip Hop festival. We got to see amazing rappers and great people watching all day and when we got there we realized the park was along the east river between the Williamsburg and Brooklyn bridges. craziest most beautiful view ever.
the line up for the evening concert was:
Dead Prez
Pharoahe Monch
DJ Premier
Grand Puba
Styles P
Smif N Wessen

Then for a surprise there was also:
Brand Nubian
Blackthought
Buckshot
DJ Green Lantern

Totally Totally Incredible.
Oh, they also had the most amazing Jamaican patties there. delicious.

Saturday night we met up with Mel, Tyson and Kelly and headed to a bar in Williamsburg called Union Pool. There was no Pool but it was on Union. It was the first time since Much Video Dance that I have seen so many (mostly straight) men dancing with no women. It was super crowded so we spent the night on the patio even though it was raining a little all the time.

Oh I also had a New York Egg Cream, I was underwhelmed.

Sunday we wanted to see the Hells Kitchen Flea Market in full swing but because of the rain and when we got there it was pretty barren. we'll have to try again next weekend.
We did a little wondering around Madison and Times Squares. We went to Macy's - it is large, this is true.
In their juniors section - which is a whole floor - they have an Apple bottom AND a COOGI section - they are both right beside the DJ booth - it was the most PT (party time) department store floor ever.
we got tickets there for a rap/sneaker/skate show on Friday - we are pumped.
we got super hungry in Macy's (because there's just restaurants all over inside it) so we headed to Little Italy. The place we ate at was so romantic and charming. It was father's day (shout outs to John & Gerry) and there were a few father-son dinners, so cute.

Yesterday was our domestic day, we did all our laundry and went grocery shopping at trader Joe's - the most PT grocery ever anywhere. everyone who works there loves their lives. its all organic, etc too. and when you are in the super long line up they come by and ask if there are any last minute items they can find for you while you wait - incredible!!!
the tropical theme and puns also help.

we went to a movie in Bryant park, it was so awesome. it was raining but there was still a great crowd. Its funny you can see the traditions of it right away - for instance all of a sudden when you could see the movie starting up people started clapping like on beat. and then the theme song for the HBO Bryant Park Movie Series started and they were already in sync with it.
I also loved that they clap whenever the hero does something good, or when someone finishes performing something. what a great idea. i love outside movies.
The movie was a coming of age story called Breakaway from 1979 - it was about a cyclist who pretended he was Italian and wanted to face off with the local college kids - i can't tell if i liked it so much because it was that good or because i saw it outside with the rest of new york.

The End.

Love and Miss Winnipeg and Fam
