Right after i wrote the last entry, Steve and Jill (friends from winnipeg) sauntered by the window of the cafe i was in. Knew they were in town, but still. incredible. They were looking for Manitoba's (pointed them in the right direction) and the Bad Brains studio (i didn't know about it, rad.)
On saturday we stayed closer to home and explored the east village. Ran into a street festival celebrating young talent and leadership. Jenna - you would have loved the band we saw, straight off of taking the Stage, I have pictures. On the other stage a musical theatre troop of kids were doing Little Shop of Horrors. Amazing.
Went to park Slope in Brooklyn for the Rub and it was raaaaaad. South Paw serves Colt 45 for 2 bucks? loved the response in the room to any song coming out of Brooklyn. Danced a LOT.
Took the train home, it was a loooooong ride, but totally worth it - Brooklyn was good to us.
Sunday we covered Soho, shopped at the YRB store - soooooo many T shirts - and Top Shop, which was incredible as alysha promised and i'm still thinking about some black boots they had.
took it easy sunday night.
Monday was a slow day:
did my laundry (awesome)
got a tattoo (even more awesome)
met up with alysha doing her laundry
at at this great and so cheap place called dojo (it isn't mixed martial arts on a plate like we thought)
monday night we went to Prospect Park in brooklyn because David Byrne from Talking Heads was kicking off a summer concert series in brooklyn - free show on monday night thought it would be chill. Nope!
i can't even guess how many people were there but it looked like at least 2 times folk fest on saturday night. it was so good to be in a crowd that big and then watch. show ended pretty early so we walked around the entrance to the park and met up with some people we met at the south paw. hung out in Bed-Stuy (always wanted to say that) for a bit and then hopped on a train home. got out of the subway and there was the craziest thunderstorm of my recent memory.
Apparently we cant get enough of brooklyn so we're heading to Williamsburg today to get our fill of fake ray bans and plaid.
love all y'all. keep me posted on what your up to.
